How to worship Hecate
Short description
Hecate is the guardian of crossroads, magic, and the unseen. She is the goddess of witchcraft, ghosts, the night and necromancy. In mythology, she is the child of Titanes Perses and Asteria. She guides those at thresholds, and she strengthens intuition and protection.
Symbolism
Her sacred animals are the black dog and the polecat. In myhtology it is said that the dog used to be Hekabe, Queen of Troy, who jumped into the sea after the fall of Troy. The polecat used to be either Gale ( a witch punished for her incontinence) or Galinthias (who was the midwife of Alkmene, mother of Herakles and punished by Eileithyia). She is often depicted with these animals and her two torches. In depictions, she often appears in a triple form, symbolizing her association with crossroads.
Prayer
This is meant as an example, not a rule or expectationHear, O great goddess Hecate, goddess of witchcraft, daughter of Asteria and Perses. Mighty are you, who Zeus, the son of Kronos, honoured above all. I call to you, the world's key-bearer, solitary goddess of the night. Please hear my prayers and accept my offerings to you in gratitude for your blessings. May you aide me in finding my way in the darkness of my mind. May you stand by me while I perform witchcraft in your honour.
