How to worship Melinoë

Short description

Melinoë is the chthonic goddess of ghosts, nightmares, madness, and restless spirits. She wanders the night accompanied by phantoms, moving between fear and mystery, dread and revelation. Yet she is not merely a bringer of terror. Spiritually, Melinoë represents the unseen world, the liminal spaces of the mind, nocturnal visions, and the acceptance of what lies hidden beneath the surface.

Melinoë appears primarily in the Orphic tradition rather than mainstream mythology

Symbolism

Sacred symbols of Melinoë include torches, masks, ghosts, crescent moons, black veils, crossroads, and shadowed doorways. Animals associated with her include black dogs, bats, moths, and owls. Sacred plants include cypress, asphodel, poppies, and night-blooming flowers.

Prayer

This is meant as an example, not a rule or expectation

O shadow-wandering Melinoë, Mistress of restless spirits and midnight phantoms, Daughter of the Underworld who walks among dreams and fear, You who veil the night in ghostly silence, Teach me to face what hides within darkness. Grant me courage against fear and confusion, And wisdom within the mysteries of the unseen world. Drive harmful spirits far from my home, And let your torches guide me safely through the night. Accept these offerings given with reverence and caution. Hail Melinoë, lady of wandering ghosts.
