How to worship Aphrodite

Short description

Aphrodite represents love in all its forms. She is tender, kindness and beauty. She embodies a force that moves us all, from mortals to the Theoi. However, love can also be pain. Aphrodite Areia (Aphrodite the Warlike) represents the war that love can bring, and shows us that love and war go hand in hand.

Symbolism

Aphrodite's sacred animals are the dove and the goose. Her sacred plants are the rose and the myrtle. She is often symbolised with an apple, scallop or conch shell or a mirror, and is often depicted nude.

Prayer

This is meant as an example, not a rule or expectation

O golden Aphrodite, born in Kypros, gold-crowned and beautiful, who stirs up sweet passion in the Gods and every creature on the earth. Lovely delightful Goddess, laughter-loving queen, sea-born and night-loving. The triple Fates are ruled by you, for all things spring from you. Please hear my prayers and accept my offerings to you in gratitude for your blessings, your love and warmth. May you, all-attractive, grant me a cheerful song and may I feel love for self and others.
