How to worship Dionysus
Short description
Dionysus is the god of wine, festivity, madness, theatre and vegetation. He represents liberation and ecstasy. He is the feeling of joy and sorrow alike. He aids in breaking down barriers. He invites release, emotional honesty and vulnerability.
Symbolism
We often see Dionysus alongside his Thrysus (pine-cone staff) in art. His sacred animals are the panther, bull and serpent. His sacred plants are the grapevine..obviously, ivy and bindweed. He was often accompanied by Satyrs and Maenads.
Prayer
This is meant as an example, not a rule or expectationHear blessed Dionysus, son of glorious Semele. Ivy-crowned lord, loud-sounding and divine. Hail Bacchus, bearer of joy, breaker of bounds. I call to you, who were twice born, mighty God of wine, pleasure, festivity, madness and wild frenzy. Please hear my prayer and accept my offerings to you. May you teach us to die and live again. To shed our masks and embrace our truth. Grant that we may rejoice this season, and many seasons onwards.
